Zenit want Krasic, Magpies pick Elia?
By Football Italia staff

Juventus are still whittling down their squad with reports Milos Krasic is heading to Zenit, while Newcastle United request Eljero Elia.

The Bianconeri are eager to shake off some dead wood in the squad and raise more funds for transfer operations.

According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, Krasic is in advanced negotiations with Russian side Zenit St Petersburg, who are coached by Luciano Spalletti.

However, Juve would prefer a permanent sale, whereas Zenit are hoping to have the out-of-form Serb on loan.

It would be a return to Russia for Krasic, who was signed from CSKA Moscow in 2010 for €15m.

There is also plenty of time for this deal to go through, as the Russian transfer window ends on February 24.

Italian clubs can buy up until 18.00 UK time on Tuesday January 31, but can continue to sell.

Juventus are considering a reported Newcastle United offer for Dutch wingerElia, who only joined in the summer from Hamburg.

It’s reported that Newcastle would like Elia on loan until the end of the season.

Gigi Buffon continues to be the number one among numbers one. His fine quality has been confirmed by IFFHS: the organization has drawn a new list including the best goalkeepers in the world, concerning the past 25 years. The Bianconero leads this list ahead of the Spanish Casillas and the Dutch Van Der Sar (having also inherited his position between the sticks at Juve in 2001).

Buffon collected 226 points. In second place, Casillas with 213 and then Van Der Sar with 201. The rest of the top ten is as follows: Peter Schmeichel (Denmark, 179), Oliver Kahn (Germany, 162), Petr Cech (Czech Republic, 154), José Luis Felix Chilavert (Paraguay, 146), Walter Zenga and Andoni Zubizarreta (Spain, 132), Taffarel (Brazil, 130).

This is another important recognition for Gigi Buffon given by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics. The first and most relevant one was the award as best goalkeeper ever, achieved in 2009.

“I’m fine, I’ve completely recovered and I can’t wait for going back to the pitch, because it’s hard not to be involved.” Being forced to see your team-mates play is always hard for every footballer, for Mirko Vucinic as well. However, the muscle injury which obliged him to miss the last games of 2011 was overcome, and the Montenegrin is now raring to restart, even because the match against Lecce is approaching, which game has a special meaning for Mirko, as he arrived in that city when he was 17 years old and grew up there as footballer and man: “It’s my second home. I’ve been there for six wonderful years and I’m always happy to come back. Moreover, I had to skip the fixture against Roma, and I was really sorry about it.”

Buffon: “Nice to be unbeaten”

Gigi Buffon’s second-half penalty save enabled the Bianconeri to hold onto a deserved point from a hard-fought battle at the Stadio Olimpico. The goalkeeper dived to his right to keep out Francesco Totti’s effort from twelve yards, and reflected on the moment with the same coolness as displayed on the pitch:  “It was an important save at a very delicate moment of the game. When you save a penalty there’s also an element of fortune that’s involved, but we also work with Fillipi on these things, because when a player needs to play, he’s obliged to improve on everything.”
